Perinteiset Finncon-naamiaiset pidetään ennen Jyväskylän Kesän klubi-iltaa Café Elohuvissa klo 20.00-22.00. Siitä ilta jatkuu Iiro Rantalan & Heikki Salon ja Daltonsin keikalla, jota voit jäädä seuraamaan naamiaislipulla.

Tickets for masquerade on Sat 14 July at 8-10 pm in Café Elohuvi (Väinönkatu 32) will be available during Finncon at info desk at the university main building and on the Elohuvi entrance one hour before the happening. The ticket price is 40 FIM. Please confirm your participation by sending an e-mail at info@finncon.org. With the same ticket you can continue the evening at the same place. The evening continues at 10 pm with Iiro Rantala & Heikki Salo and rock-band Daltons.
The ticket for both the masquerade in Elohuvi and techno party at Messukeskus (Messukatu 10) is 120 FIM. In order to get the ticket you have to register by e-mail to mirja.summanen@jkl.fi by July 6. Tickets will be available during Finncon at info desk at the university main building. For more information on the techno party see www.niitty.org.

Chopper on kohuttu, tositapahtumiin perustuva intiimi muotokuva
sarjamurhaajasta, josta tuli kotimaassaan mediajulkkis. Filmi on herättänyt
kiihtymystä ja suuttumusta mm. Lontoon elokuvajuhlilla. Filmiä pidetään
parempana ja vaikuttavampana kuvauksena kuin Oliver Stonen "Syntyneet
tappajiksi" -elokuvaa. Suomen ensi-ilta!

'Chopper' is one of the best films I've seen this year. It's not after
sympathy or sensation, it's not here for the glamour or the prestige.
Where to place Chopper -- a pedestal or a prison? Exactly how do you
establish the essence of a serial killer character without a) making what
they do seem acceptable, or b) making what they do seem repulsive? It's
difficult territory for any director to tread and Dominik seems to think he
can get it right for his debut.
Oliver Stone invites viewers into his world whilst it seems like Andrew
Dominik is pushing the same crowd away from his. Simplistic visual
compositions dominate the film's standoffish look, which are textured with
odd colored filters of neon blue, green and yellow. The characters are right
at home in these dank and threatening worlds that have not yet been drained
of all colour and life.
Dominik doesn't treat his viewers like consumer purchasing morons who come
to the cinema just to put bums on seats and choctops in hands. By not making
judgements, the filmmakers have pushed that task onto the audience, who are
now given the power to interpret and react on their own terms. What could
have been told as simply "bad" now gives the appearance of a skeleton of
film, in which the morality of the picture can be filled in at the viewer's
discretion.
'Chopper' could have easily been about the crimes rather than the criminal,
just as films about drugs can so easily be focused towards addiction rather
than the addict. Instead it opts for a wider perspective that jeopardizes
the viewer's sense of security and challenges values set in stone. It may
seem as if the universe of Chopper Read is around the wrong way, but that's
only because the film doesn't tell us which point of view to observe from.
It's your call.

Kilpailu on avoin kaikille, jotka eivät ole aikaisemmin julkaisseet
kaunokirjallista teosta.
Novellien ja raapaleiden tulee olla perillä viimeistään 1.6.2001.

Voittajat julistetaan ja palkinnot jaetaan Finnconissa Jyväskylässä

Suomen ulkoministeriö on kutsunut Finncon-Baltconin toimittajavieraaksi Ansiblen kustantaja David Langfordin.
Vuonna 1953 Pohjois-Walesissa syntynyt David Langfod (GB) on henkilö, jolle on myönnetty toiseksi eniten Hugo-palkintoja (neljä kertaa Best Fannzine, neljätoista kertaa Best Fan Writer). Hänet tunnetaan monien scifi -tietokirjojen toimittajana,tuotteliaana kolumnistina ja kriitikkona,sekä myös ansiokkaana novellistina.
Langford on myös tosi hauska veikko!
David Langford (UK), publisher of Ansible, as well as well known journalist/author/critic is invited and brought to Finncon-Baltcon by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
